Cities fall, heroes rise. .. Eight years after the Dark Knight took the fall for another man’s crimes, the troubled hero resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy. Ingeniously tapping into the rich history of popular culture this is an atmospheric and multi-layered modern epic from Christopher Nolan, currently the best British director around. In Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman it also features the finest British acting talent.

Intro talk on Friday 3 August at 7.30pm: “Popular Culture, the Graphic Novel, Modern Mythologies – an Introduction to the World of The Dark Knight”. By Thomas Gerstenmeyer (approx 10 minutes).

“The Dark Knight Rises has an intelligence, epic thrust and visual grandeur far beyond its present box-office rival, Joss Whedon’s Avengers Assemble.” (Philip French, The Observer 22 July 2012)
